Meet the team
Charles Lindo is the Director of Tourism of the St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation. He is responsible for the day to day functioning of the Tourism Office and the overseas marketing of Statia as a tourism destination.
This includes maintaining the regular and sufficient communications and promoting goodwill between the Government, Tourist Board and all members of the private sector of Statia’s tourist industry, both on the island and overseas.
Maya Pandt joined St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation as “Product Development Manager” on December 1, 2009. With over 10 years of experience in the hotel industry, applying a strong expertise in operations management, special event planning and guest satisfaction. A native of Statia, Maya Pandt began her career while pursuing a Master’s Degree working as a Graduate Assistant and Front Office at the Hilton Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama.
In 1998 she joined the team at Extended stay Hotels and within 2 years was promoted to General Manager at the Extended stay Deluxe in Daytona Beach, Florida. Maya holds a Master in Business Administration degree in Marketing from Alabama A&M University, a Bachelor of Science degree in International Travel & Tourism Management from Webber International University formerly Webber College and an AS Degree in Travel & Tourism from Johnson & Wales University.
Working at the St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation is something I do with much passion and enthusiasm. Tourism is a very important sector in most countries and being as diverse as we are, it’s necessary for us to tap into that area and promote and develop what our beautiful Statia has to offer. Together with the hospitality stakeholders, we should have Statia on the map.
The Public Relations Officer, Teena Lopes is responsible for all public relations related information, quality assurance and the efficient dissemination of information. This includes coordinating of tour programmes, mail and phone enquires with regards to the Tourism product of the island, and the efficient distribution of all visitor/tourism related printed and or online materials. It is very important that the Public Relation Officer maintain a professional image at all time. Ms. Lopes was well groomed for this position as PR having worked at the FDR Airport and having dealt with visitors from many varied destinations. Ms. Lopes has an educational background in hospitality management, and have always had a great interest in working in the tourism industry.
Sharmin Turner is an educator by profession. With a passion for communication Sharmin changed cap and entered into the realm of the hospitality sector. Sharmin has since her years working at the tourism office acquired a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience and is now responsible for all accounting and financial obligations pertaining to the organization. “I love my island, I love my job and I do what I do for the love of tourism”.
Mr. “Charlie” Lopes is a Park Ranger of the STDF. Mr. Lopes has more than 30 years of experience in this field. He performs a wide variety of duties at the STDF and is the only park ranger employed by the Foundation. As a local tour guide Mr. Lopes comes highly recommended, and does tours to areas such as the Quill National Park, Gilboa Park, and the Botanical Garden just to name a few. “Charlie” as he is commonly called will then take visitors to the many different trails around the island. The Park Rangers caries out various tasks associated with forest or structural fire control, protection of property etc. Charlie may not give you a scientific tour, but he will blow your mind with his knowledge of the local names of plants and historical recollections of the island. The park is manned and managed by STENAPA.
Ms. Carty is the Clerical Assistant at the St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation. Ms. Carty’s profession entails a wide variety of duties and responsibilities which help to maintain an efficient office environment, Ms. Carty’s tasks include amongst others; administrative, secretarial and clerical support to all staff members. Ms. Carty, having worked with STDF during her 6 month internship period as a clerical assistant and an airport information officer is well informed and knowledgeable of the day to day operations of the STDF.
